After the Albanian government drafted an urban requalification for Himara, which expropriates several members of the Greek minority, Greece has reacted very harshly. Himara Mayor said Greece was misinformed by the OMONIA party, which represents the Greek minority, which has falsely reported that every expropriation is being done towards Greek citizens.
To further discuss this matter, on Top Channel’s “Top Story”, hosted by
Sokol Balla, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro was invited in a debate
with Vangjel Dule, leader of the United for Human Rights Party, which
represents the Greek minority.
Dule shares the same stance as Omonia, and says that the plan aims to expropriate citizens who are declared as Greek.
“There
are three problems. The local development decision was approved
illegally in that meeting; there is the decision of the Culture Ministry
to rehabilitate historic centers and facades in Vuno, Thermi and
Himara, which were opposed by the Himara citizens, because behind them
hide selective, contradictory and clientelist policies. Himara has
always had problems with its identity”, Dule declared, accusing Edi Rama
of behaving as a landowner who aims to remove Greek citizens from their
property and from the area.
The Minister of Culture told Dule
that the only purpose of the plan is to develop the area, and that it is
being politicized by parties. She said that there is no Greek minority
in Himara.
“There is no Greek minority in Himara. There are
Greek citizens as all Albanians who obey to the laws of this country”,
she said, adding that the government has followed every procedure for
compensating the owners.
