A major antidrug operation was held today in Athens, bringing 97
suspects under custody in total, 59 of whom only during the past three
days. The number goes at 146 with those who are accused of being aware
of then illegal activity.
Authorities say that the leaders of this organization were all Albanians. The organization operated with separated groups, autonomous branches that worked anonymously from each other so that they could escape arrest of every single member.
The head of this organization was careful to divide the roles of the members, organizing every detail, from import to distribution.
African immigrants were mostly used for distribution, but also Albanian and Greek retail sellers. The organization was focused in Athens. 30 of the suspects are Albanian, 30 Africans and the rest are Greek and immigrants from Bulgaria, Romania and Afghanistan.
45 houses were searched and police seized 433 kilograms of cannabis, thousands of unprocessed plants of cannabis in green houses, 30.000 EUR, 10 vehicles, 2 motorcycles and one truck used for transportation and distribution.
Police say this organization has trafficked more than 1.2 tons of cannabis and other heavy drugs. Profits mount up to 19 million EUR.
