Dritan Dajti delays the judiciary

The Court of Serious Crimes has returned once again to the names of
lawyers handed over by the Chamber of Advocacy, while the trial of
Dritan Dajti keeps failing after 264 sessions.

Since no solution was found even by refreshing the list of lawyers, the only possibility remaining is a law amend, and trying to reinforce the role of state offered lawyers.

The President of the Court of Serious Crimes, Sander Simoni, declared for Top Channel that judges have no other solution rather than referring to this new list of lawyers sent by the Chamber of Advocacy.

“Most of them, as I have been informed by the court, refuse to accept the defendant as their client. They use as argument the lack of professional experience in treating delicate matters”, Simoni declared.

But why none of the lawyers want to defend Dritan Dajti?

“We have gathered our opinions and will ask the Ministry of Justice to analyze the case, so that there can be effective interventions for finding a legal solution, which doesn’t stop only by reinforcing the disciplinary procedure or by increasing the court’s authority. We need an institutional and legal solution, and in my opinion, it reinforces the competences of the State Commission for Legal Help through the category of lawyers who might be engaged full time to this Commission”, Simoni declared.

On the other hand, informal information suggests that one of the lawyers who appeared at the Commission declared that he refused to defend Dajti because he had been threatened, but investigations have not started yet.

Another issue which withholds the justice is that of the former National Guard commander, Xhahit Xhaferri, and his dependant. They are being tried in absence for a crime that took place in 1997. There have been 105 blocked sessions for this process since the last year, because the authorities cannot find the addresses of witnesses.
