Albania has 4.4 million registered residents, but many of them live and
work abroad. The Albanian emigrants are at around 1 million, but there
has been never an accurate calculation in the last 25 years.
The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, presented the draft-law for the registration of emigrants, in cooperation with the other government institutions.
PM Rama said unfortunately this is a historic process, because Albania is the only country in Europe that doesn’t have an accurate address system. This, according to Rama, has taken place because of the absence of a serious government in the past 25 years.
Tahiri underlined it is time for a new patriotic agreement with the immigrants: “The state has the duty to guarantee services for Albanians abroad.. We owe them to serve them at their home.”
