Today, the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, reiterated his promise that he will increase the salary of medical personnel to 1,200 euros for doctors and 700 for nurses.
Basha accuses the Prime Minister Edi Rama that during his rule he has forced doctors to leave the country, therefore he said that with his coming to power they will support young doctors with specializations, higher salaries, as well as will cancel what he called corrupt concessions.
“In Albania, the public health system suffers from a lack of health personnel, infrastructure investments and medical equipment. Citizens have to wait in line for hours or days to receive basic service. Lack of support has driven thousands of doctors and nurses out of the country, making Albania the country with the lowest number of doctors per capita in the region.
“After 2 terms of Rama’s government, Albanian doctors are paid less than in any other country in the region or Europe. Last year, Kosovo also significantly increased the salaries of health personnel, with the aim of banning the removal of white shirts. There specialist doctors are paid 1195 euros (from 661 euros earlier), general practitioner 836 euros (from 566), head nurses 621 euros (from 472) and first nurses 537 euros (from 425 before).
“In our governance plan we will do everything to support specializations for young doctors. We will increase the salaries of doctors up to 1200 euros and 700 euros for nurses. We will support and stimulate doctors to serve in different areas of the country where there is a complete or partial lack of health personnel.
“Albanians deserve and will have a normal government, which works for them and not for a handful of oligarchs”, stated Basha among other things.
