The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, responded harshly to Prime Minister Rama, who, based on the opposition’s lack of will to sit at the work table of the bipartisan Electoral Reform Commission, emphasized that the majority will continue working alone, or by looked for other ways.

In a media conference, Basha emphasized that no one can claim to change the Electoral Code without the votes of the majority or the opposition, since historically no political party in Albania has had the votes to approve alone processes that require a qualified majority.

According to Basha, even though the end is arithmetic and 84 votes are needed, DP as the leading force of the opposition will insist on a consensual discussion of national priorities, transparent to the citizens.

“It is not surprising and no one can claim that they can change the Code without the votes of the Socialist Party. PM Edi Rama is comfortable with this Code, but the people are not comfortable, Albanians are not comfortable with this situation. Our responsibility as DP, as the leading force of the opposition, is to show the possibilities, the path to accommodate the public interest, the popular situation and not the situation of Edi Rama and his cabinet.

“Therefore, to achieve this, we propose the electoral reform. He is used to an ugly event in 2020, but I don’t think he will be able to find lackeys in the Albanian parliament to make changes to the Electoral Code as he wants them,” said Basha.

The democrat also spoke about the chaos created in the Assembly by fellow deputies of the DP faction led by former prime minister Sali Berisha.

“Being in opposition means doing the best in the best possible conditions, it is not opposition to obstruct the works with flares, this serves Rama, the budget was obstructed, other laws were obstructed, the biggest budget was passed. There is no time for frustration with tactics to avoid responsibility, we should not feed these alibis, we should engage more strongly”, he added.
