DP: We’ll not enter the Parliament of violence

The first meeting of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group for this
new session reconfirmed the opposition’s decision to boycott the
Parliament. The DP leader, Lulzim Basha, blamed Prime Minister Edi Rama
for what he considers an anti-democratic and confrontational stance with
the opposition.

“The chief oligarch, Edi Rama, wants to submit the opposition or try to find ways to clash with it. There’s no other purpose from a government that violates the laws. The opposition will never be submitted. We have avoided conflicts and we will do everything possible to keep avoiding them, despite the public’s pressure that is constantly growing. They are destroying the temple of democracy and are defending the crime that controls them. That’s why we will not be present in Parliament. He can talk to himself. The opposition will be public, tooth for tooth, standing as an European opposition”, Basha declared.

He adds that this type of opposition means opposing every action and law of the government that aims to consolidate an oligarchic regime and damage the foundations of democracy. The next move will be making a complain at the Constitutional Court for the five laws that were rejected from the president. Most of the attention goes on the territorial reform, since it affects the next local elections.

“We will challenge these decisions at the Constitutional Court, starting with the electoral map. We have taken all measures and put in motion some local referendums. We will fight them through laws, courts, forums, popular democracies and protests. Our motto is fighting with the Constitution in our hands”. Basha declared.

By not turning in Parliament, the opposition promise to not turn into an “opposition for decoration”, as Basha considers his former allies, the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity, who voted in favor of the territorial reform. The opposition leader reconfirmed his theory based on the reciprocity principle.

“Who will plant wind will saw a storm. Who will plant storms will saw tsunamis. They failed with their promises, that’s why the battle against truth has started. It will be the Waterloo of the Tirana oligarchs. The opposition and the citizens will be stronger than the oligarchs”, Basha declared.

Lulzim Basha seemed determined for a long-term opposition outside the Parliament, but it is still early to tell if this determination will continue after a few months, when it will be the time for the mandates of some MPs to end.
