The coalition of the Albanian opposition parties issued a declaration
regarding the negotiation progress for resolving the political crisis in
the country.
DP lists 16 points to describe the steps taken during the negotiations that started on May 15th, during the visit of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Hoyt Brian Lee, accompanied by the US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu.
DP said that Hoyt Brian Yee accepted the huge problems with drug, corruption and crime, and congratulated the opposition for bringing these problems to the attention of the international community, promising constant support from the USA to fight against these phenomena.
“The opposition says that Hoyt Yee presented the 15-point-proposition of McAllister for resolving the political crisis, plus seven points coming from Prime Minister Rama. Yee insisted on this package and said that the party refusing this package would be held responsible”, says the declaration of the opposition.
The opposition says that Basha had notified US Ambassador Lu that they were accepting the proposition brought by Yee, including the possibility to identify voters through electronic voting. “Instructions from Yee were only to accept the agreement with ‘yes’ or ‘no’, without additional conditions. Including other conditions would be considered a ‘no’”, the DP declaration says.
The opposition leader said that the Democratic Party’s answer was a “yes” to the package. What the opposition will require during the dialogue, are guarantees for a full implementation of the package, and this includes the possibility for electronic voting.
The Democratic Party states that the Albanian Prime Minister refused the proposition of McAllister Plus, brought by Mr.Hoyt Yee, which, for the Democratic Party, is another proof that Rama wants to dictate the result of the next elections without the presence of the opposition. The opposition thanks the US for their efforts to help Albania in this critic situation, and hopes that the strategic partners will help convince Rama to accept the integrated proposition of McAllister Plus.
