The Democratic Party declared that the discharge of the Audiovisual
Media Authority Director was illegal and based on special interests.
The Head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Edi Paloka, declared that the opposition doesn’t recognize the decision of the Rama-Meta duo, which, according to him, will cost money to the Albanian taxpayers. He said they will oppose it with every legal means.
“The Rama-Meta duo announced in the Commission of Media Education, without the presence of the opposition, the opening of a post for the AMA Director, although her legal mandate expires in 2016. This decision had been warned in the government program that Edi Rama read in Parliament last September. This decision became real with two amends made by Peza, filed in November and December 2013, with the purpose to make AMA a biased institution and under the control of the majority, different from the balanced institution that it had become with the consensus of the Democratic Party and Socialist Party, through a law approved by the former legislation. The public and opposition reaction, and also the comments of the European Commission and the OSCE, that the mandate of an independent director cannot be interrupted, and that every decision should be made through consensus with the opposition, made Rama and Meta to withdraw the amends, but didn’t stop their greed”, Paloka declared.
