A group of Democratic Party Parliament Members have submitted at request
at the Albanian Parliament for the establishing of an investigative
commission about what they call an incident at the Vienna Diplomatic
Academy between the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, and the Albanian
diplomat, Egin Ceka.
The draft-decision has not decided yet about the deadline of this investigation that the Democratic MPs need, since there are only 10 days left for the Commission, according to the Constitution, which states that the Parliament cannot establish an investigative commission four months before the end of the mandate, which cincides with May 7th.
The second question is if the Parliamentary investigative commission can investigate this. According to the democrats, although the investigative commissions aim to improve the legislation or increase the Parliamentary control over the government, they refer to a Constitutional Court, which defines when a given situation is of public interest. According to the Democratic Party member who initiated the request, this matter is of public interest.
The Democratic Party says that the incident has damaged the international image of Albania and the integrity and dignity of some representatives of the diplomatic body in a foreign territory.
“Even for the fact that there could be disagreements regarding the dynamics of the event, a full verification is more than needed to recover the image of our country”, the Democratic party declared.
The Democratic Party argues that even in this context, the establishing of this investigative commission by the Parliament guarantees the fulfillment of the constitutional right that every citizen has to take the necessary information about a matter of public interest.
Organizers: Meeting was without incidents
Institution Reener was one of the organizers of the forum at the Viennese Dipomatic Academy.
To shed more light for the incident claimed by the Albanian Foreign Ministry and the opposition leader, through diplomat Egin Ceka, “Top Channel” made a question to Marchl Gerhard, head of the European Section at the Reneer Institution. This was the answer received through an e-mail.
“The forum and the dialogue was held peacefully. We can say that we have no knowledge about any debate or incident that might have happened after our activity. This came for the first time to our knowledge after the Albanian news”.
