The two main opposition democrats, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the current chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, are expected to be summoned as declarants in the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office about the violent January 8 protest.

It took prosecutor Elio Mazreku two days, Sunday and Monday, to prepare the requests against the 34 detainees from both camps, for whom the prosecution submitted its request to the court shortly before the official closing hours.

The suspects handcuffed at the end of the January 8 protest are charged with illegal protests, blocking the road, damaging property and violating the rules on explosives and lacrimogen substances.

Although the police stated that the deputies Flamur Noka and the general secretary of the Democratic Party, Gazmend Bardhi, have also been released, the prosecution has not yet decided to enter their names in the criminal registers. 11 of the arrested are supporters of Lulzim Basha, while 23 are supporters of Sali Berisha.

The first file seen by TopCHannel states that five of the detainees from Gjakova who were arrested in a bar near a shopping center declare that they are not supporters and that they had come to Tirana to escort a relative to the airport. But their testimony remains questionable to police who claim they may be among the undeclared bodyguards of the democrat figures.
