DP, Halimi: “Rama wants to appoint his own Ombudsman”

25/01/2017 10:45

The Democratic Party MP, Eduard Halimi, said at today’s meeting of the
Commission of Laws that the Ombudsman should never be chosen by the
Prime Minister.

“The government process for appointing the Ombudsman goes against the tradition and the constitution, because he should never be chosen by the Prime Minister. This post belongs to the people, the citizens, since he needs to protect their rights. Five years ago, when you were in opposition, you wanted this so much to even boycott for the Ombudsman, and we respected the Constitution by giving you the right to appoint him”, Halimi said.

The Democratic Party MP added that his appointing by the Prime Minister turns this constitutional institution into a puppet and obedient servant.
