DP: Government is lying with retirement pensions

The Democratic Party accused the government of lying to the citizens
with the pension reform. MP Sherefedin Shehu says that the new scheme
will reduce pensions for most of the disabled people.
“The lie is very clear. They are lying to two vulnerable groups. They are reducing the benefits for all categories of average salaries under 40.000 ALL, and are reducing benefits for farmers, who had a more unified system from the state”, Shehu declared.
Despite the government’s claims, Shehu deeclared that this reduction comes from the formula that affects the basic pension, on which the benefits of retirements are calculated.
“The calculation base has changed. From 12.000 ALL it goes to 6700. This pensions has been halved, and it shows that categories with small salaries will have lower benefits”, Shehu declared.
The Democratic Party MP has another argument, explaining why the new scheme will reduce benefits.
“You cannot reduce the deficit of the scheme without increasing benefits or contributions. When the contributions are not affected, the deficit will be covered by a reduction of pensions for most of the population”, Shehu declared.
According to Shehu, since the scheme affects the groups with lower revenues, the Democratic Party cannot accept it and will vote against.
