The Democratic Party will gather this Saturday its National Council for electing the presidency of the ruling party.
The National Council was elected together with the Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, one year and half ago. But during this time, none of the other forums has ever gathered at any meeting. Mr. Berisha notified before the local elections that this process would be undertaken after the local elections.
The Democratic Party will gather to elect only the presidency, consisted of 25 members, including the party leader. Usually, the National Council has voted on the same day also for the presidency, the general secretary, vice party leaders and secretaries. The Democrats will not follow this procedure this Saturday, but they will elect only the presidency instead.
The schedule of the day is assigned by the leader Sali Berisha, who has the right to propose the candidacies for the members of the presidency. The inner rules of the Democratic Party do not exclude the National Council signature collection for the candidacies, but official sources confirmed for Top-Channel that there has been no such initiative.
The votes about the presidency will show the influence of the main figures in these forums, compared to that of the new ones that emerged after the Democratic Party came into power. This would have a double significance if the member would also elect the secretariat this Saturday, but we will have to wait for this.
