DP demands resignation, Meta: “I will not leave twice for Shkelzen Berisha”

Today’s Parliamentary session had a tense climate and harsh debates,
mainly between Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta and the former Albanian
Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, who asked his resignation, while Meta said
he was ready for a confidence vote.

“You must resign immediately, because you are being accused for the assassination of two Parliament Members. This is the biggest accusation in the history of the Albanian Parliament. Justice can then investigate this case”, Berisha declared.

Meta invited the Parliament Members to continue with the confidence vote. He considered the logic of the DP Parliament Members as “perfect”.

“Your logic says that the Prime Minister and the Parliament Speaker has ordered the assassination of two Parliament Members for destabilizing the country and bringing the opposition in power. There is no sense. I do not resign for Tom Doshi, who used to be a Republican, and even less for someone like Durim Bani. Our Parliament cannot have this precedent”, Meta declared.

The Parliament Members of the majority continued with the parliamentary agenda and voted draft laws and resolutions. During this time, the opposition stood on their feet and booed the works. Meta declared the closing of the session, but Spartak Braho declared outside that if Berisha will not stop talking, next week he will bring a surprise for him, a video projector in the Parliament.

Paloka: Meta must resign! Parliament Speaker: Gather Legislation Council

The Democratic Party asked Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta to resign and turn himself to the judiciary institutions.

“You shouldn’t have had the courage to sit on that chair. The mafia leadership is leading our country”, Paloka declared.

According to him, Meta should turn himself to the judiciary institutions and turn back where he was if he is found innocent.

Meta answered: “I do not understand your request. You have made no written request. Gather the Legislation Council. I cannot do anything else”.

Tension raised when Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta asked to continue working with the daily agenda. The Parliament Members of the Democratic Party stood up around the Parliament’s podium.

In this situation, Meta interrupted the works and asked the Health Minister to call ambulances to take care for the mental health of the MPs.

The ambassadors who were present left the session a few minutes after this scene.
