After the government decided to give the audit of Albanian customs to a
private British agency “Crown Agents”, the opposition declared that this
act is suspicious, non-transparent and serves to the clientele purposes
of the government.
The opposition declared that this agreement that is not published fully in the government’s website is damaging for the economy, and the real cost is not known yet. The former Minister of Finances, Alfred Rushaj, addressed some questions to Prime Minister Edi Rama, saying that there were suspicions that the Normative Act for reviewing the budget is directly linked to the private British company selected by Edi Rama without taking the Parliament’s vote.
“Is Crown Agents the real reason of the Normative Act through which you reduced the customs revenues and increased the public debt? Will it profits some millions of dollars from the Albanian taxpayers, if the customs revenues would be in the same level as before you reduced them?”, Rrushaj declared.
The opposition’s questions for the credibility, seriousness and cost of the British company that will manage the Albanian customs left to be understood that Prime Minister Rama was aware of some negative reviews of this company.
“Have you been informed by the European Union that Crown Agents offers service at a very high cost? Has the World Bank excluded Crown Agents and all its branches from the right to be part of any World Bank project, after being proven that they have undertaken fraudulent policies”, he added.
According to the opposition, the only European Union country that has received services from Crown Agents was Bulgaria, which three years ago decided to not renew the 16 million EUR agreement due to the high cost for a country in economic difficulties.
