DP boycotts status ceremony

The EU candidate status might turn into a motive of division between the
Albanian parties, different from what all party leaders declared when
it was received.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced a modest ceremony at the Palace of Brigades, where the Persident and all MPs were invited, together with all the former Prime Ministers of the past 23 years, from Aleksander Meksi to Fatos Nano and Sali Berisha, and all Ministers of Integration who have contributedn with this long process.

But the MPs of the Democratic Party will be absent in this ceremony. The Tirana Municipality, after the Prime Ministry’s invitations were distributed, announced that they will have their own party with a festive concert at the artificial lake.

Although PM Edi Rama underlined that the candidate status would not be followed by celebrations or concerts, but with a simple all-inclusive ceremony, the concert organized by the Tirana Municipality will keep the Albanian politics divided once again.

It would be interesting to see which ceremony the Albanian President will attend, since he has not confirmed his presence at any of them yet. But, however, the President has also organized its own ceremony for the status. Institutions have received invitations for a celebration organized by the President on Monday, when the Prime Minister has organized another reception, this time at the Gallery of Arts, honoring the visit of the European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso.
