The negotiations between the right and left wings of the European
Parliament for Albania are almost over. The two European MPs, Knut
Fleckenstein and Eduard Kukan, are expected to publish a press release
this afternoon.

Confidential sources told Top Channel that after the meeting of the European Popular Parties, they agreed for a one-day visit of Fleckenstein in Albania on December 18th, and they are working for the agenda.

The office of the German Social-Democrat is working closely with Kukan, from the right wing, who will not accompany him for this visit. “But he may visit Tirana later, maybe even during the next week, depending on the situation”, say the same sources at the European Parliament.

Fleckenstein will arrive in Tirana this Thursday and will leave Friday afternoon. His agenda is to meet with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, and the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha.

“He is not going for theater there, but for learning the stances of both sides on what is being asked and what is being fulfilled”, declared an European official for Top Channel.

The rapporteur for Albania has planned to visit Tirana on January 7th, for the annual report of the Euroepan Parliament. The visit of this Thursday will be for the parliamentary boycott, and it is strongly supported by Kukan, as underlined in the press release.

Different from the preliminary draft, it doesn’t foresee to mention the “decriminalization of the Parliament”. The declaration has been simplified and the report is expected to be only about the commitment of both European MPs, while “their concerns and duties are being revaluated”, and a more clear platform is promised after the meetings in Tirana.
