The Democratic Party MP, Gert Bogdani, attended the Political Assembly of the European Popular Parties for Western Balkan today.
He said in front of EU countries that human rights and freedom in Albania has deteriorated and that the economy is focused on the hands of government clients.
Bogdani mentioned the Nation’s Road 10 EUR toll fee, for which the company will receive a 400 million EUR profit in a time when the Kukes area lives in poverty and unemployment, making the highest number of asylum seekers in Europe.
Bogdani explained that high taxes established by the government for enriching one of the oligarchs who has ties with Prime Minister Rama was the reason why Kukes citizens joined in protests, regardless of their party affiliations.
The Secretary for Foreign Relations noted that the protesters were arrested illegally, violating their constitutional rights, and that they are being kept in prison against legal procedures.
Bogdani added that by continuing authoritarian methods, 60 MPs, Mayors and Civil Society activists are being prosecuted, with the purpose to silence voices against the government.
Bogdani reconfirmed the Democratic Party stance in favour of the accession negotiations, arguing that the closer Albania is to the EU, the more accountable will the government be in front of citizens.
