The Director of the Tirana University Hospital Center, Eugerta
Manastirliu, declared that the hospital didn’t have even basic materials
like glucose, physiological water, serum and many medicaments when they
arrived.

“We resolved the emergency by normalizing the supply. No medicaments are missing today. We have guaranteed biomedical equipment and put the linear accelerator to function again for the radio-surgery and tumor treatment.

The TUHC Director says they have increased the service quality, have turned the kiosks into green spaces and have transformed the image of the biggest hospital center in Albania. The number of reimbursable medicaments has increased, while there are more than 10 service packages in cardiology, neurology and other sectors where the service is offered for free and the spending is covered by the government.

The Health Minister, Ilir Beqja, listed the achievements of his ministry, such as the removal of VAT for medicine, the reduction of medicament prices by breaking monopolies and by increasing competition in the market. In September the hospital will start offering free check ups for people from 40 to 65 years old, and the anti-smoking law will be implemented in every closed environment. Then he addressed doctors and mentioned the bribes patients offer for health care.

“We tried to offer the best working conditions, and now it is up to you to prove to the Albanian people that there is no need to give money for health care”, the Minister declared.

The Albanian Prime Minister listed the achievements of these 300 days, and answered to the accusations for not offering free healthcare.

“It is no electoral hallucination, but a promise that we will keep in the right time for this revolution, because we have a system that is based on an insurance scheme that doesn’t work”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister warned doctors that direct their patients to one single pharmacy for their medicine, after prescribing unnecessarily expensive products, that they will be watched carefully and punished for this.

“The anti-corruption campaign will start in Autumn and it will be based on the fight against corruption in hospitals. There will be zero tolerance and everyone will be punished, from the bottom and to the highest hospital levels. It is unbearable that Albania has corruption everywhere”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister underlined that the second year of the mandate will focus on the anti-corruption fight, especially in the health sector.
