Five days away from the local elections, the opposition Democratic Party failed to bring its vote counting commissioners to 422 polling stations. If the Democrats fail to deliver their commissioners by Sunday, the CEC will take over the situation.
“Even though it has this right, the Democratic Party did not send a commissioner to 422 polling stations. If the political parties that have this right fail to bring in proposals, those will pass to the party that has a similar spectrum”, said chief commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi.
There have been no shortage of applications to replace the Democratic Party commissioners, but the socialists in power are afraid that the seats left empty by Alibeaj are being replaced by people from Berisha’s faction in DP.
Commissioner Celibashi shrugs when asked about the identity of the applicants.
“I don’t know if they are motivated by the political party or not”, he stated.
The absence of DP at the vote counting tables does not constitute a problem for the Central Election Commission as long as there is the possibility of replacing them.
It is a different matter with the vote operators, who enable the operation of biometric identification devices.
The CEC notified as well that10 candidates for Mayor, who have been sent for in-depth vetting, will continue to be on the ballot paper , until the moment when the justice agencies say the last word for them.
