The distribution of free books in primary schools has started today for students of the first, second and third grades, with new, unused books, the educational authorities announce.

They added that there are 72,000 students who will receive single-use textbooks this new school year. While the students of other classes in 9-year cycle will have to hand over the books at the end of school, with the instruction to use them for up to 3 years from one generation to another, if they are well maintained. In total, in all pre-university education institutions, 242,000 students are expected to be beneficiaries of free books, used or new.

“I have new workbooks, while the textbooks are used. It’s better new than used, as the test pages are filled out”, says a fifth grade student, when asked about the books she will use.

The difficulties encountered with the used books with old notes and scribbles, brought the need to expand the package of new textbooks from the first to the third grade due to the young age of the students, but the teachers think part of this scheme should also be the fourth and fifth grade students.

“In later years, there should be other students who get new books, especially for subjects that are studied several times a week, such as mathematics and language and literature, because they are small and do not care enough”, says Gentiana Gramo, teacher of primary education.

The distribution of books is being carried out through a schedulke so to avoid the queues of parents at the doors of educational buildings, as the new school year begins on September 11.
