Disposal of chemical weapons is possible

“In 2002, through a political will, we declared our chemical weapons to the Hague organization for stopping the chemical weapons, and in cooperation with the United States government, this process started in Albania. There are three technologies today: incineration, neutralization and plasma technologies. We destroyed 20 tons of toxic agents in 2001, using the plasma technology. In 2007 we used the incineration one, due to the other type of agents. We have local and international experts participating with this, but the main burden was held by the American side”, Vucaj declared.

When asked about the Syrian chemical weapons in Albania, Vucaj declared that Albania, with the support of the United States, has all the capacity to realize this process.

“I have shown how we destroyed 16 tons without any environmental impact. We analyzed the environment before and after the process. The impact in the environment was zero, and I think that it is time to show the world opinion that we also can do big things, as we have done in the past”, Vucaj declared.

The former coordinator answered to the groups that are against the disposal in Albania.

“I want to tell to the people who are against, that they are raising futile dust and creating panic to the people. I’ve heard experts saying that 0.05 mg per liter is fatal for people. Yes, these chemicals are dangerous. Even more than what they say. But the entire working capacity and the cooperation with the international factor will make it a success”, Vucaj underlined.

When asked about the possible place to complete this process, Vucaj excluded Elbasan categorically and suggested that the Qafe-Molla basis is the most adequate place.
