The Parliamentary Commission of Economy held a meeting during the
Parliamentary Session, among the shortest for this year, in absence of
the opposition and represented only by Nard Ndoka.
The Commission led by Erjon Brace reviewed the proposition of the Supervisory Council at the Bank of Albania for discharging Governor Ardian Fullani, now under arrest.
The members of the Commission of Economy voted in favor of this discharge, based on the law for the Bank of Albania.
“The motivation is for violating work ethics and damaging the Bank of Albania interests. This is the motivation brought by the law, and the Commission voted it unanimously”, Brace declared.
The same motivation was used for gathering 28 MPs who would sign the procedure for discharging the Inspector General, Elivar Golemi, also arrested by a decision of the Court of Tirana.
“Both are based on the Bank of Albania law, and serve to continue with the appointing of new leaders at the Bank”, Brace declared.
TCH: Will he be discharged next Thursday?
“Certainly. The decisions of the commission will be presented to the Parliament Speaker and will be placed on the agenda of the next week”, Brace declared.
Government: No rush for new appointments
“Bank functions with these members and this acting Governor”
“There’s no room for panic. The Parliament will give its opinion within the legal deadlines, but the Bank is still functioning normally”, declared Niko Peleshi, Deputy Prime Minister, guaranteeing that the government’s interest is to have a stronger and more independent bank.
“The government has no intention to capture independent institutions, especially the Bank of Albania. We will be a very active part of the procedure for giving integrity to this important process”, Peleshi declared.
