The Director of the Security Forum in Belgrade, Marko Savkovic, analyzed
the recent developments in Balkan and the Russian influence.
He said in an interview for Top Channel that despite their economic interest, Moscow will not stop the European integration of Balkan countries, or even Montenegro’s NATO accession.
“The situation in Skopje is concerning. It is creating a crisis throughout Macedonia. I think that when there is a political option when you have a majority in Parliament, that group of Parliament Members should run the country. We are concerned about the influence it may cause in the other states around, with the current tense ethnic situations. All international factors are appealing President Ivanov to allow Zaev form a new government. This needs to be done as soon as possible, because it is on our citizens’ best interest. It is good for Macedonians and Albanians alike. This crisis should be resolved peacefully”, the Serb analyst declared.
As for the Russian influence in the region…
“Russia doesn’t have sincere clients in the region, but they may keep meddling by taking advantage of the conflicts between Balkan countries, to keep their influence longer”, Savkovic said.
He added that the Russian intervention may slow down, but will not stop the region’s EU and NATO integration process.
