The German Ambassador to Tirana, Carola Müller-Holtkemper, is pleased
with the parliamentary elections and declared that the Albanians finally
held elections that were not contested.

“After decades of contested elections, the Albanian people finally made it and should be proud of this achievement. According to the German observers, with whom I had a conversation after the elections, the results were positive. Hence, I had to answer first to your question by saying that after several decades, Albania finally held elections according to the European and international standards. With this achievement I think that your path to the European Union is clear. Naturally, this is the time to be euphoric, since it is deserved. But the future will not be easy, and my advise is: stay loyal to your programs, to your revival and turn it to reality”, declared Carola Müller-Holtkemper.

Berisha’s acceptance of the elections was considered by the German ambassador as an European behavior.

“It was a big relief, because tension had started to grow. He declared his loss and the victory of the opposition on Monday, but on Monday when it was clear that the opposition was about to win, the situation was tense and everyone was asking what would happen. The Albanians were concerned because of past experiences. Berisha’s action gave security to everyone that Albania can behave like a normal European country”, declared Carola Müller-Holtkemper.

The German diplomat, whose country has a great weight in the December decision for Albania’s candidate status, declared that the three laws passed and the elections reached the standards. The incumbent government and the new government of Mr.Rama should reinforce the fight against corruption and organized crime.

“The meeting of the European Union Council of Ministers in the end of this year will see these developments in Albania as positive. Let’s not forget that Albania was asked to pass the three integration laws and start their implementation in September. The other request was related to the elections, which went very well. There are two other issues that are related to war against corruption and organized crime. The new government will take care of these issues, by what I understood. I followed very closely the declaration of the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, who said that his government should work in full capacity. There are all the chances to create a good track-record in the war against corruption and organized crime until December”, the German ambassador declared.

The French Ambassador in Tirana, Mrs.Christine Moro, gave positive remarks on the way how the June 23rd elections were held.

“I want to underline that the elections went very well in general. Unfortunately there were some cases of violence and one person was killed. It was pleasing to see the clear result, including the declaration of Prime Minister Berisha, who recognized the result. This is very positive. I think that we are in the beginning of a process that will continue during all summer. I trust that everything will go smoothly, because the Albanians have expressed their will”, Mrs.Moro declared.
