Private vans that serve as taxis between cities have started a protest
that spread throughout the country. Today they blocked one side of the
road after passin the Korce-Pogradec axes, close to the Lumala village.
They asked the police to check all passenger transportation vehicles and
not allow violations, by creating difficulties for citizens.
They have unanimously opposed the decisions that have blocked their work for days.
This has disoriented the public transportation. Passengers say that moving with buses is impossible due to their timetables, and that the cost with taxis is unaffordable.
A similar protest was held in Lushnje, where van drivers protested in the town’s center.
There were protests in Kukes too, against the government’s decision that cuts jobs of the van drivers.
Van Driver Associations declared that this Saturday they would block the Nation’s Hghway for one houra t the Black Drin area.
Rama: We blocked vans without licenses
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared in the Albanian government that the government will not allow unlicensed drivers on the street and that they will leave time to drivers to organize themselves.
As for the urban transportation system, Raam says that it will be integrated, since it includes the interest of all citizens.
The Prime Minister underlined that in eight years, the Democratic Party government has not done anything for the public transportation. He added that the accidents caused from 2008 to 2013, have caused the death of 2952,
The Interior Minister declared in Parliament that the death rate on road accidents is much higher than the other countries in the region and the European Union.
