Even one day before the meeting of the Commission for the December 24th
agreement, the Albanian majority and opposition are yet to find an
agreement for the decriminalization issue.
The Democratic Party members are expected to submit a constitutional amend that interrupts the mandate of Parliament Members with criminal records, and forbids any person with such records from running for the elections. The majority said some other steps are needed.
“I haven’t seen the propositions, however, we will have a meeting of the special commission for implementing the issues addressed at the resolution of the Parliament in December 2014. We must discuss them with each other. A process has already started about this. In the last meeting of this commission we made an agenda that starts with the first step, the assistance from the Commission of Venice, the EU, and my proposition for including the USA for consultations. Let’s not make a media show with one or two propositions, but a real legal process that starts with the evaluation process, the consultations and then with the propositions”, declared MP Taulant Balla.
“I hope that this is not part of the tactics you have shown so far for delaying the process. We know for sure that we will take very determined steps and there will be no elections on June 21st without finalizing the decriminalization process. If Mr.Balla has the good will, he should join us without any hesitation. We are ready to use any expertise, but we are based on our best European and international experience. As result, any other effort like what we saw today will not stop this process even if this is a visible sign of the fear that Mr.Rama has for the decriminalization process”, declared the Democratic Party MP, Oerd Bylykbashi.
The answers in distance between them foresee a difficult meeting and with harsh debates. The Socialists also have their own proposition for the decriminalization.
“It is not only the addressing of the people with criminal records. I think that part of this process should also be addressed to people under investigation that have not been sentenced. This is another problem with the Albanian politics. We have the case of Lulzim Basha, or other cases in politics, with people under investigation, found guilty by the Prosecution but that avoid justice due to medical reports and permits to go abroad”, Balla declared.
