Diaspora Minister in Turkey: “Izmir will be teaching Albanian language”

The Minister of Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, met today in Ankara with the Deputy Prime Minister, Hakan Cavusoglu, and the Minister of Education, Ismet Yilma. The latter informed the Albanian Minister that starting from April, schools in Izmir will start teaching in the Albanian language.

Both officials focused on the friendly relations between the two countries and the support they have given each other in difficult moments.

Majko thanked the Deputy Prime Minister on behalf of the Albanian people for the assistance that Turkey offered in the flooded areas of Shkoder.

He appreciated the efforts of the Turkish authority for preserving the Albanian identity and culture among our Diaspora.

Majko asked for more cooperation in creating a centre for publishing books in Albanian, for which the Deputy Prime Minister said he would be happy to help.

Another important meeting was that with the Minister of Education, Ismet Yilmaz, who informed Minister Majko that this April, Izmir will be teaching the Albanian language as an optional subject in Turkish schools, while free distribution of textbooks is already underway.
