The Albanian government will reimburse diabetes strips for 1500 children up to 18 years old, throughout the country.
The Association of Young People with Diabetes says patients use minimally 4 strips a day, which costs them 73.000 ALL a year, in average.
There are 1500 children suffering from diabetes in Albania, and covering their strips for an year would cost 10 million ALL. But the association says they will be able to obtain the materials with a price four times lower.
Asim Toro, leader of the association, said whatever money will be left, will go to new cases that will be diagnosed this year.
This is the first time that the Albanian government answers to children with diabetes by including them in the reimbursement scheme.
