The US Department of State published the annual report on terrorism in which Albania’s efforts in achieving a new justice system are also analyzed.
Despite our country’s efforts to reform justice and establish new bodies, USDS in this report expresses reservations in its conclusions.
“Corruption and barriers to information sharing between state agencies, insufficient coordination between agencies, including a weak justice system, continued to hamper the efforts of law enforcement agencies at all levels, including those dealing with the fight against terrorism. The implementation of deep reforms followed. The vetting of 800 judges and prosecutors for corruption and links to organized crime has been completed in 75%”, the report says among other things.
It also appreciates Albania’s efforts in the return of 38 women and children from the Al-Houl camp in Syria. But the threat to Albania, according to DS, are foreign terrorist organizations and their efforts to forcefully radicalize young people.
