The Democratic Party MP, Majlinda Bregu, reacted after the letter of the
EU Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, regarding the June 18th elections. She
said that the message Hahn sent to the Democratic Party is a very bad
news.
“Johannes Hahn sent a very bad news to the Albanian people, and, unfortunately, it was addressed to the Democratic Party”, Bregu wrote on Facebook.
“This is the saddest letter I wished it had never arrived. This has been for a long time the only reason why I asked my friends to not act as if we were speaking to a wall, so that Europe, Washington and no Albanian had any reason to make us feel ashamed for decisions that in fact were not taken, were not discussed, were not reviewed by the Democratic Party members, but by the people who did not want to listen. And this is where we stand today, Isolated!”, Bregu writes.
“After trying to convince us diplomatically, with offers and negotiations, which were met with stubbornness and deaf ears. Europe decided today to hit us hard. ‘The June 18th elections will be held without the participation of the current opposition, which has deliberately boycotted the elections. Democracy cannot be blocked by boycotting institutions. The actions that damage the citizens’ right to vote are unacceptable”, she added, quoting Hahn.
Bregu said that this was a bad and undeserved letter for the Democratic Party and its supporters:
“The people who spent their youth in the prisons of the communist regime just because they loved Europe, don’t deserve this. This stance is unacceptable for the men and women who were killed without a trial, just because they dared to think differently. The young people, still on a crossroad and without a future, the employees of Albanians institutions who have worked for so many years to get Albania closer to the EU and the standards it requires, don’t deserve it”, she said.
According to Bregu, Europe is accusing the Democratic Party today and is appealing citizens to not follow them down the same abyss.
“I don’t worry about the Democratic Party leader or the others who couldn’t stop him with this fall. I worry about the hundreds thousands of Democrats who didn’t want the DP on streets. The leader wanted DP in a tent, not in Parliament. He wanted it with civilian disobedience, not with elections. They enjoyed the so-called ‘victory’ in Kavaja, which can never be called a victory”, the Democratic Party MP said.
“Abandoning the battle is not resistance against this scary majority, is not a confrontation with Edi Rama, but surrendering against the problems that is making Albanians suffer, giving an unlimited power to the only person who wants power, and who plays with it. The Parliament of tomorrow will be the first one in 27 years where democracy will be used to remove democracy. There will not only be no will to fight drugs and crime, but it will take Albania towards the Turkish-like presidentialism”, she said.
Bregu added that the only way to not allow the fate of Albanians to get worse, and the Democratic Party to not get destroyed, is to rebuild the party that is now facing the undeserved dilemma: to be or not to be.
