The opposition started a tour of hearings with the interest groups for the draft-budget of 2014.
Lulzim Basha, leader of the Democratic Party, criticized the government for what he called a complete lack of transparency. Basha declared that this budget pushes our economy to the ruin.
“Our biggest concern is that abandoning the flat tax and increasing the tax on profit with 50%, our weak growth that Albanians have been enjoying for the past 6 years will be brought down. It will cause a negative effect on the economy”, Basha declared.
The business representatives brought their views and suggestions.
“The International Monetary Fund and World Bank loan that is being negotiated with harsh fiscal conditions, should not be accepted. If the International Monetary Fund accepts to give that loan without negotiations, let’s negotiate for no more than 100-150 million USD for a three yar period; and remove the categories small and big business based on a threshold of 8 million ALL of annual turnovers, for the tax on profit. There are economic notions that make the division based on the turnover”, declared Gjergj Buxhuku.
“We need objectives for reducing informality, not increasing taxes. A government can say that their objective for 2014 is to reduce informality from 35-40%, and in the next years for more After we consume the administration system, we may think about raising taxes”, declared Luan Bregaasi, from Business Albania.
The Democratic Party says that these meetings will continue in the days to come ot have a better idea of the concerns that the business has for the new fiscal package.
