Decriminalization of politics. Opposition creates committee after resolution

The Democratic Party has raised a group that will identify the need for
intervention and implement the December 24th resolution, part of which
is the issue of public employees with criminal records.

The opposition’s Vice Chairman of the Commission of Laws, Oerd Bylykbashi, is tasked to propose solutions for this issue.

“The decriminalization process will include the current public employees and those who will be recruited in the future, starting with the next local elections, but especially with the next parliamentary elections. We will create legal filters which will make decriminalization possible, until this negative phenomenon is completely removed or stopped”, Bylykbashi declared.

For the Democratic Party, amending the Constitution is not taboo if it helps the Parliament to remove people with criminal records.

“We can intervene with the Constitution too. It is necessary to change the Parliament Regulation, draft a new legislation and change the Electoral Code, in order to stop people with criminal records from running for MPs or mayors”. Bylykbashi declared.

The Democratic Party leader says the current system allows people to run for MPs the very first day they are out of prison, and after one month they can be appointed as Ministers. The Democrats believe that with assistance from the Commission of Venice and with a good political will, the decriminalization will be resolved by the end of June.
