Declining exports hurt local agriculture/ Farmers in Divjaka reduce planting areas

Stavri and Jetmira Zaka have been involved in agriculture for years, but this fall they are facing many difficulties in their work.

Their production of peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers was left unsold for the most part due to the damage to exports by the pandemic. They are uprooting the plants and say they are heading for bankruptcy.

The cost of agriculture has risen sharply, they say, ranging from seeds, fertilizers or labor.

They add that these selling prices do not justify the costs.

This aggravates their economy as in addition to expenses they also have loans to repay. Faced with this situation they have decided to significantly reduce the planted area, in anticipation of the end of the pandemic.
