Debates for Kosovo and Greece at the Foreign Commission

Discussions for Kosovo and Greece have turned the meeting of the
parliamentary Commission for Foreign Policy into a debate between
Foreign Ministers.

For the Democratic Party, the relations with Kosovo are in their lowest point, but chairwoman of the Commission, Arta Dade, opposed it by even criticizing the declaration of the Kosovo Foreign Minister, Enver Hoxhaj, who said that Prishtina doesn’t need Tirana’s intervention in the dialogue with Serbia.

Aldo Bumci: “Now that we have reached the lowest point of the relations between Tirana and Prishtina, we can say this is a crisis. This is not unexpected. Last year, after the Vienna meeting, Hashim Thaci said that reconciliation can only come through Prishtina. The only problem with the Serbian-Albanian relations is Kosovo and Rama’s meeting with Serbia, the way how Kosovo was left in shadow. The main dimension in the Belgrade-Prishtina meetings is not Tirana. Tirana is causing damage with this role.

Arta Dade, chairwoman of the Foreign Commission: I think that the Foreign Minister of Kosovo has rushed with his declaration. I would say it doesn’t reflect the cooperation spirit. Even if we had avoided it, there is the international factor, the ones without which Kosovo would not be where it is today. If there are unexperienced politicians there who don’t know these things, then we must tell them what we have done.

Kastriot Islami, member of the Commission: We and our colleagues at the Foreign Ministry have tried to find a position between contribution and non-interference.

As for the relations with Greece, Aldo Bumci asked the Foreign Ministry representatives to get information about a proposition made by Greece and quoted by Brussels, which is about building a mechanism for resolving the border and Cham matters.

Arta Dade replied by saying that she was part of the delegation that accompanied the Parliament Speaker of Albania to Greece, and that she considered that visit an excellent one.

“We saw positive will and commitment from the Greek side to resolve these matters burdened from the past. Beyond politicization, it is in our interest for experts to continue their efforts”, she said, while the commission kept discussing matters with Greece behind closed doors. Sources say that Bumci kept asking what was the proposition of Greece in Brussels.
