The miscast vote of the Albania President spurred many controversies
when CEC opened for the first time the ballot box where President Bamir
Topi had voted, and where there was only one miscast vote, in favor of
Edi Rama. Media footage showed that President Topi was the one who
miscast his vote.
But was he the only one who miscast his vote? Where did the President’s vote go?
On May 8th, while allowing the media to film him voting, the Albanian President miscast two of his ballots.
On May 18th, CEC decided to count miscast ballots, and two days after this process had started, CEC was introduced with some other boxes, which had not been included in the first decision of counting miscast ballots. However, the CEC majority decided to count even the new boxes, and inside the box where President Topi had voted, they found only one miscast ballot, which was in favor of Edi Rama, leader of the opposition. This vote was attributed to the Albanian President, a former close collaborator of the Democratic Party.
Starting from this moment, the personal relations between the President and the former Interior Minsiter, candidate of the ruling Party for the Tirana Municipality against Rama, were not as good as before.
After January 21 events, when the Prime Minsiter accused the President of being involved in a coup, the Interior Minsiter Lulzim Basha did not clearly distance himself from this accusation, when he witnessed in the Parliamentary Commission, and these conditions might be plausible for justifying the President’s vote. Although the President’s duty is to remain impartial, on the elections day he has to follow his heart. Does his heart belong to the opposition?
But on June 13th, the Electoral College ordered CEC to count all remaining miscast ballots. For this reason, CEC opened the other boxes of the voting center where the President cast his vote. The final results show that there are 6 miscast ballots for the heads of the Municipal Units, and only one miscast vote for the Mayor, the one that was attributed to the President. The mystery here is that if there were 6 ballots that were miscast for the head of the Municipal Unit, there should be 6 miscast ballots for the Mayor, instead of one. All other possible combinations of the miscast ballots should not show such a result by the end. Were these ballots removed, for leaving only one ballot in favor of Edi Rama? This is a big question.
But another serious fact is that the will of five citizens is missing. For whom were these votes?
In these conditions, no one can tell for whom the President has voted, while the latest insinuations of the Prime Minister, who identifies himself with the Democratic Party, show even more the inner war of this Party against former collaborators.
