Netherlands will block Albania’s EU accession negotiations, according to the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf”

“There are serious concerns about the fight against corruption and organized crime in Albania”, declared the Foreign Minister of Netherlands, Stephanis Abraham Blok. However, Netherlands has not closed its doors to Albania, according to De Telegraaf, which underlined that this is the reason why the VVD, CDA, CU, PVV, SP and 50Plus are collecting votes for stopping the government to accept opening the accession negotiations with Albania.

The MP of the CDA, Van Helvert, accepted the increased influence of Russia and China in Western Balkan, but, according to him, this fear should not be a criterion for opening the accession negotiations.

Helvert, according to De Telegraaf, admits that there has been progressing with the reforms, but the slow pace of the Vetting Law is not convincing for opening the negotiations.

According to De Telegraaf, only D66 and Groenlinks agree for opening the accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia.
