“Dita zë fill” (Daybreak) had a good start with its first public
presentation at the Sarajevo Film Festival, with actress Ornela Kapetani
bringing “Sarajevo’s Heart” to Albania and a very positive evaluation
of the movie.
The feature film written by Gentian Koci is a strong psychological drama of a desperate young mother who is forced to make extreme choices for raising her daughter. The film will be on Albanian cinemas starting from this Thursday.
“Of course, Leta (main protagonist) could have done any other job. Waiter, cleaner. I chose to take it to the extreme because this is a work of fiction, a work of art. I would have chosen this 100 other times”, says Gentian Koci, director.
Focusing on the human being, Koci writes the story from the view of a woman, but without feminist colors, leaving the character in the mercy of her fatality.
“From the psychological view, she always has some kind of conflict. Can she do it? Can she make ends meet? Could she make it to the end of the day? Will she be able to continue keeping her child, or even herself? I felt that Leta was an oppressed woman who had no voice”, says Ornela Kapetani, actress.
The only person who sheds some light on the dim life of this woman, is the figure of a postman.
“The postman turns into a victim of this game, or does he really feel something? Or is he hiding something? This is for the viewer to find out”, says Kasem Hoxha, the actor impersonating the postman.
In this movie, Genti Koci has also involved the delicate topic of euthanasia, an element that has never been treated in the Albanian cinematography.
