Czhec Ambassador: “No veto for CEZ, but for reforms”

02/10/2015 10:55

The Czech Ambassador to Tirana denied that her country conditioned her
veto rights in the EU for the relations with the energy distribution
company, CEZ.

“I don’t think that the main problem is CEZ. Being a foreign diplomat, I don’t want to comment about an internal affair. The rule of law and independent judiciary are very important for the progress of companies and the prosperity of a country. The relation between CEZ and the Albanian government has been supported by the World Bank and the European Commission. When we give the candidate status for a country, we judge by the reforms. We are waiting for the progress-report that is issued by the European Commission and we will discuss about it”, Tomasova declared.

The debate of the recent days has considered as corruption the fact that the energy distribution companies were sold to the Czech also to remove a veto for the candidate status. The Czech Republic was leading the presidency of the EU when Albania presented its request. This time corresponds with the purchase by CEZ, which has now left the country.
