Israel will help Albania build its cyber dome in defence against the common virtual enemy, Iran.
Gaby Portnoy, General Director of the Israeli Cyber Directorate, answered to Erina Matraxhiu from Top Channel television, on how his country’s experience will help Albania.
Top Channel: All this experience Israel has with cyber attacks, how is it put in use, to help other countries, for example Albania?
Gaby Portnoy: We are open for cooperation. It’s an obligation, same enemies. It’s not only about enemies, but resilience. Same enemies, same challenges. And again we have to save the democratic world. So for me, the wider the defence will be, the better cyber security we will have. It’s not about the physical dimension. It’s cyber. We have to think differently. You have the paradigm that you can stretch from the physical to the cyber. But also a lot of new paradigms. The borders don’t have any meaning. So is Albania. The same distance as my neighbour here in Jordan. So we are willing to share whatever we can about cyber security.
Top Channel: Has Israel begun to help Albania?
Gaby Portnoy: Yes. We signed this morning (01/02/2023) an MOU to share everything. Technology, methodology, processes, regulations.
Top Channel: Will it be possible that Albania one day will have it’s own Cyber Dome?
Gaby Portnoy: No, we will build Cyber Dome in Albania. We will connect the Cyber Domes. This is the plan.
In Tel Aviv, Gaby Portnoy – Director General of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate signed a memorandum of cooperation together with Igli Tafa, Director General of the National Authority for Electronic Certification and Cyber Security.
The purpose of this memorandum is to strengthen Albania’s defence capacities after being targeted by Iranian hackers, in July, last year. The memorandum also provides a framework for the mutual sharing of information between Israel and Albania.
This development comes during an international conference being held in Tel Aviv in the begging of February where the focus was cyber security, a challenge to be met by teaching people how to protect themselves.
