Three months after the Parliament approved the government’s agreement
with the British Companym, “Crown Agents”, the Albanian Prime Minister,
Edi Rama, attended a visit on terrain to have a closer look at the work
of the British customs agents.
Rama considered the cooperation with the British customs agents as a radical and historic transformation of the services offered by Albanian Customs to businesses.
“Crown Agents will use their experience to be the watchful eyes of the Albanian public in every Customs checkpoint, in order to return trust in the Albanian Customs, which we inherited in miserable conditions”, Rama declared.
“Safety with every Albanian Customs Agent, and their relations with every business, are a matter of priority for us. The cooperation between the Albanian Customs and Crown Agents is a new push forward against the traditional procedure of asking bribes from businessmen. This is a move forward against this habit that destroyed our economy and finances. Our merit in the future will be that together with Crown Agents, we will build a new system”, Rama declared.
The Prime Minister announced the creation of a Customs Training School, where the entire personnel will receive training each week and will undergo tests.
The General Director of the Albanian Customs, Elisa Spiropali, emphasized their team work with Crown Agents.
“The motto between the Albanian Customs and Crown Agents is that we are not two different teams, but one team that will share the same success”, Spiropali declared.
David Smith, Director of Crown Agents for Albania, declared that today they are celebrating the final work after several months of training, and that this is only the beginning of their operations on terrain.
“After one week we will deliver our first report on the table of the Minister of Finances, who will describe the achievements of our operational groups”, Smith declared.
The British Ambassador to Tirana, Nicolas Cannon, declared that this is the most effective method for delivering not only to the public, but also to the Albanian government.
