Croatia, complaint at EU Commission for waste coming from Albania’s sea

22/02/2018 14:00

The Croatian European MP, Dubravka Suica, from the European Popular Parties, has made a request at the European Commission to take measures for waste coming from Albania to Croatia’s sea, near Dubrovnik.

The Croatian MP says that Albania has signed the Convention for Protection of Marine Environment and the Coastline of the Mediterranean, and it should be implemented.

The Commission answered by saying that Albania, although an EU candidate, is not bound by EU environment laws to obey unconditionally. But the Commission has made a request to Albania to adopt its law to the European one and take further measures on the issue.

The Commission supports, even through financial means, the regional action plan against waste thrown in the sea.
