Crisis, Fule: Integration in danger

European commissioner on EU enlargement, Stefan Fule, appealed Albanian political parties to resolve their crisis, or Albania’s EU integration will be in danger.

The EU high rank official said that political parties should put national priorities before personal interests and hold transparent and free elections.

If a compromise will not be reached, Fule emphasized, it will be hard for the European Commission to give a positive opinion on Albania’s progress, and he also made clear that Albania will fall behind other regional countries and their integration aspirations.

Fule declared that the 12 EU recommendations that Albania needs to put in act are part of a very good agenda that should be followed by every political party.

“I encourage both parties to make good use of this opportunity and produce constructive dialogue, improve Parliament’s function and push Albania towards EU”, Fule declared.

“Every Albanian citizen deserves free and transparent elections and Albania must not miss this opportunity. Collaboration between parties in order to improve the election process is the key to success and could help putting the political crisis to an end. If a compromise will not be reached, it will be hard for the European Commission to give a positive opinion on Albania’s next progress report. This could cause Albania to fall behind its neighbors on EU aspirations” European commissioner said.

“The 12 key priorities offer a clear orientation for this achievement. This must be seen as a national goal that surpasses political aspirations. Party leaders should dialogue and treat Albania’s interest as a priority. Both political leaders have shown commitment on Albania’s integration and reforms. I hope to see the same commitment on other institutions, like the Albanian Parliament. It is Albania’s responsibility to implement these measures”, Fule declared.
