The Albanian judiciary released for procedural technical reasons a
person who was wanted by the French authorities for drug traffic. Domart
Konjari was released because the Prosecution didn’t bring their case
within the deadline.
Konjari was sentenced in France with 10 years in prison for drug traffic. He was acught in November, while trying to bribe border authorities, and was left in house arrest for forgery of documents.
After realising he was wanted also for drug traffic in France, the case was moved from the local court of Korce to the Court of Serious Crimes, who asked French authorities to send the appropriate documents, which have not arrived yet.
The Court of Appeal, in an unprecedented case, acquitted him not only for the charges coming from France, but also from the house arrest order for forgery of documents, since the local Prosecution had not sent any other documents after moving his case to the Court of Serious Crimes.
The Prosecution, however, insists they have respected the deadlines. The truth will be revealed by Monday.
