The court of Saranda in the southern coast of Albania decided to release the 11 officials and former officials of the IKMT and ASHK territorial agencies, who were accused of abuse of office in relation to constructions without permission in the area.
Two cartographic engineer employees of the ASHK Sarandë agency, namely Ermen Stroka and Erald Lika, have now been placed under house arrest.
While the three inspectors of the Local Inspectorate of Territory Protection in the municipality of Saranda, two specialists have been left under the obligation to appear.
The arrested persons and those in search are accused of having illegally allowed constructions near the coastline in the city of Saranda, including a 7-story building without a building permit, and subsequently proceeding with the legalization of that building.
Since March 2022, in Saranda more than 25 local officials have been banned for various property-related violations, while it has been officially acknowledged that the cartographic situation on the coast there is chaotic and more than 80% of properties have problems with the documentation.
