Countryman: USA, no veto power over Kosovo-Serbia agreement. Territorial exchange, dangerous

02/04/2019 19:29

“The idea for changing the borders between Kosovo and Serbia is not a 21-st century solution”, said the former US Deputy Assistant Secretary for the State Department, Thomas Countryman,

Today Chairman of the Arms Control Association, Countryman says that the agreement between both countries has to be reached by the respective governments, and the USA has no veto power over it.

However, he admits that many observers in Balkan fear that territorial exchanges between Kosovo and Serbia could turn into a dangerous precedent for countries such as Northern Macedonia and Bosnia Herzegovina.

His advice for both countries is to focus more on the reforms and establishing the rule of law, which would accelerate the EU integration.
