The draft-conclusions of the European Union council, secured by Top
Channel, say that there are still effort being made for the decision
regarding Albania’s candidate status.
“On December 2012, the Council invited the Commission to report the reached progress, keeping in mind all further actions of Albania in the path against organized crime and corruption, including the pro-active investigations and punishments for similar cases. The Council welcomes the key reforms in the judiciary, public administration, reforming parliamentary measures with a party consensus, and the successful elections held on June. The Council welcomes the further actions undertaken in the fight against corruption and organized crime, and the government’s determination to intensify the efforts in this area. Based on Albania’s progress, the council decides to grant Albania the candidate status, a subject that needs to be confirmed by the European Council”.
This is the only non-definite paragraph for Albania, although the negotiations between the 28 member countries are continuing.
The preliminary draft of the Council values the high-rank dialogue for the key priorities, and says that the decision on this step will be taken based on their fulfillmnet .
