The local elections of June 30th will be monitored by diplomats from the US, British and Itlaian embassies.
The highest number of observers approved by the Central Electoral Commission will come from the US Embassy, 20 in total and 19 translators. There will be four British and four Itlaian.
The involvemen of the three biggest embassies in the monitoring process confirms that June 30th is the day that is considered for these elections, although the President has repealed the decree.
The accrediting of these diplomats comes one day after the Council of Europe decided to withdraw their observers, an action which the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, considered a political movement. But the Congress of Local Authorities at the Council of Europe is not the European Council.
The Spokeperson for the CoE declared that they are following the situation very closely before the elections of June 30th, which should be held in full accordance with the law.
The CoE reminds that they have a very consolidated relation with OSCE/ODIHR, which has sent a mission for observing the elections in Albania.
