Albanian Interior Minister, Sander Lleshaj in a press release said that the prefect of Shkodra, Cesk Millja has been relieved from duties.
Lleshaj announced that his place will be taken by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari and clarified that the decision was taken in the context of greater efforts by the Government for Shkodra in support of the measures necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“If we have expressed reservations about the situation in Shkodra, this does not mean that all remarks were addressed to the Municipality. In the way things have worked in Shkodra, certain leaders of the territorial branches have their influence, such was the Prefect of the region, as the highest representative of the government there.
“Unfortunately, during this period of pandemic, an unacceptable bureaucratic inertia, a reluctance to assume responsibility, and a lack of leadership have been observed, things so necessary, especially in such situations.
“To manage the situation in the Shkodra Region with the highest efficiency, the government has decided to assign the task of coordinating the efforts of the territorial branches of government in this region, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Besfort Lamallari.
“Of course, the command of a deputy minister in this critical function is an expression of the importance that the Government attaches to the situation in Shkodra”, stated Lleshaj.
